I keep on knocking out the good stuff

Thursday, February 17, 2005

Well.. I didn't build this, but I found a very nifty PHP family tree maker that can run on a mySQL database and import/export GED files.

Pretty cool stuff.. It allows you to dynamically browse through lineages and very easy to install.

Barnhart Family Tree

The nice thing is that Mom has a file with tons of information.. so I just need to get that from here and I'll be all set!

In other news, work is coming along slowly on Bridget's room. I put up the ceiling fan over lunch today and tonight I hope to get all the trim up around her windows so Holly and can paint them. We want to have it done by this weekend

Hey.. cool news only -1816 days until we leave on vacation!! Whoo hoo!

Finished categorizing pictures!

Monday, February 14, 2005

Wow! A week later and 2,063 pictures catagorized (include 169 pictures that I marked not to display) I have all my pictures inserted and put up to date.

The Barnhart's Pictures!

Some new things I added
1) Ability to only show pictures of a certain quality
2) When looking at a parent catagory, ability to display pictures from children or not.
3) Ability to select multiple categories. (Brett & Bridget & Holly & Homer House)

There are a few more things I may work on over time, including:

  • adding a login so you can view only pictures added since you last logged on

  • Search to only look for certain dates (either creation or picture date)

  • Search to look through the text of the titles and descriptions for key words or phrases

We had a pretty good weekend. On Saturday, I installed a new mailbox (someone blew the stop sign at the end of the lane on Thursday and took out all the mailboxes). I also tried to fix the lane by using the back-blade... it made a real difference, but I don't know if it is good or bad. There is so much water coming off the neighbor's field that the end of the lane is just a mud mess. I got off into the grass with the 4320 and just sank..
Afterwards, I took Lefty out for a ride. Bridget and Brodercik both took him for a ride as well.
Bridget spent most of the day at Brownies. They had an event where people from different countries set-up booths and taught the girls about their homelands. She really enjoyed it.

Sunday, church as normal and then I put trim up in Bridget's room. Holly is doing a make-over in there. kinda fun.. we aren't letting Bridget see it until it is done! I should have everything finished up on my end tomorrow night.

We also had dinner with Donald and Tei... very nice. :)

The Barnhart's Pictures!

Friday, February 11, 2005

I've been working on this for the last week and I have it in good shape.

Take a look at the dynamic picture library. Let me know if you have any suggestions on improving it's performance or if something doesn't work as you expect.

Broderick playing in the mud

Doesn't this look like fun? Broderick got his 4-wheeler out today and tore up some mud!

Weekend away in Galena, Car shopping, stuff

Tuesday, February 01, 2005

This weekend was our 10th wedding anniversary (yeah!) and we celebrated by going to Galena, IL. On Friday, we dropped the kids off at my brother's (who lives in Rockford) and got to Galena around 9 PM.

We've become very spoiled by living in some very nice older homes... especially our house in Homer. (Someday, I'll put up a couple of pics).. so we've stayed at places that felt like a let down. But the Stillman Inn was very nice. Granted, the hot tub was barely deep enough to cover our legs and took about 20 minutes to fill up and the rooms were not up to date. But, it was very enjoyable.

Saturday, we spent the day shopping around downtown. They have something like 88 shops and 20 restaraunts. Very nice.

The kids had a great time with their Uncle Trent and family. They weren't ready to leave when we got there on Sunday to pick them up!

For an anniversary present, I got Holly a very nice 3 diamond necklace. I actually bought her a ring first, but I forgot that she already wears a ring on each hand, so we took it back in and exchanged it for this. I am pretty happy about it... looks very nice.

We paid off the van last week, so we are looking to trade in my truck on a better family vehicle. We've been looking for awhile now. We took a Honda CRV, Jeep Liberty, and Jeep Rubicon Unlimited for test drives today. We weren't fond of the Liberty. Holly liked the CRV although it felt small to me. I liked the Rubicon Unlimited, but it is pricey (about $31K). Tomorrow we are going back in and test driving a Jeep Cherokee, a Crysler Sebring convertable, and the Jeep Unlimited (non Rubicon) to test those out. We'll also head to the Honda dealer to drive a newer CRV.

If anyone has any suggestions for a good small van/suv type vehicle, let me know! We want something that the 4 of us can fit into comfortably and still have room for groceries, etc.

Oh! I bought a new laptop the other day. It should arrive tomorrow. I've been thinking about getting one for about a year and this one is a great deal at Best Buy. Unfortunately, they were out of stock, so I had to order it online... but it is scheduled to arrive tomorrow.

Bridget gave a speech for her class last week (regarding St Bridget). It went well and she got an A-. She volunteered to go in the first group (4 kids/day) and then volunteered to go first in her group. We are so proud of her!! Her teacher had great remarks for her on the summary.
