Gained a little more weight

Thursday, March 29, 2007

Lucy gained 2 oz this appointment to get up to 7lbs 4 oz, so we are on track. Evidently, she just isn't being aggressive enough feeding to gain weight, so we will continue to use a breast pump and formula to supplement her diet. At least we know that nothing is wrong with Lucy now!!!

Not gaining weight, not looking good... :(

Tuesday, March 27, 2007

Lucy had her appointment today and weighed only 7lbs 2 oz... so either she has lost 4 oz this week, or the scale (they used a different one last time) was off.

She, we are now concerned. We are going to try using an herb to help enhance Holly's milk production and give at least an oz of formula after feeding. We are also supposed to get a breast pump to see if that will help Lucy eat.

They think that she is just being aggressive in eating, not that there is anything wrong with the milk production. Since she isn't demanding milk, it just isn't coming in full..

Slowly gaining weight, what a personality!

Friday, March 16, 2007

We had our 3rd Dr Appointment this morning. Our normal NP was out sick, so Lucy saw the Dr on Call. Everything looks good, although Lucy still hasn't gained a lot of weight. She gained 4 oz to get back to 7lbs 6 oz, but still 7 oz below her birth weight. So, we go in again next week.

Luxy has been sleeping well at night. Most nights, she eats around 1 AM and then sleeps until 7-8 AM. We are definitely in the camp of let sleeping babies lie, although our NP has suggested we wake Lucy up every 3 hours to feed.

Lucy is getting such a little personality. She is awake more often now and often just looks around. She has deep blue eyes... which I don't remember the other kids having (they had lighter blue I think).

2nd doctor's appointment

Friday, March 09, 2007

Lucy had her second Dr's appointment this morning and she is looking great. Her color is good and vitals all looked good. The only concern the Dr had was that Lucy has only gained 2 oz since birth. Ideally at this age, she would be gaining an ounce a day.

We'll keep an eye on it and see if she gains more for next week's appointment!

Lucy update

Monday, March 05, 2007

Lucy is continuing to grow and become her own little person. The first couple of days, if she was awake and not eating, she was crying. Now, there are periods (some pretty short) where she is awake, not eating, and happily looking around.

Holly still isn't getting a whole lot of sleep, but she has found that the couch is pretty comfy when reclined, so I think she has been napping while Lucy feeds at night.

I still feel kinda helpless, as there is very little I can do to help out at night... but I am trying! I also have a little bit of a cold, which doesn't help...

Starting to get settled into a routine

Saturday, March 03, 2007

We are starting to get settled into more of a routine. Unfortunately, Lucy seems to think that if she is awake, she needs to be with mommy... even if she doesn't seem that hungry. Last night, I stayed up with her (OK, I was watching movies and snuggling with Lucy) until about 1 when Holly came in and woke her up for feeding. After that, I think Holly was up most of the night... Lucy would feed and fall asleep... within a few minutes of being put down, she would wake up wanting to eat some more. ah well.... the joys of having a baby.

She had some very nice periods today where she was awake and looking around and not fussing... she is such a cutie!!

We had a Dr appointment yesterday and Lucy's weight was down to 7 lbs, which is about a 9% weight loss. They said that is pretty normal for breast-fed babies. She also looked a little jaundice, so we are going to keep an eye on that. We go in again next week.

She got to meet the dogs today... Sam and Cricket both aren't too sure of what to make of the new addition (I have a very cute picture of Sam, I'll see if I can post later).

Pictures

I don't have everything properly labeled yet and some of the early dates are off, but Lucy's pictures (including pre-birth) are now up in our picture gallery.

First Day at Home

We had a bit of a tough night last night. Lucy definitely has her days and nights backwards. She slept most of yesterday and then was up a lot last night. She wasn't bad, just didn't want to be put down, so I ended up holding her for a few hours in a chair.

Unfortunately, the bad thing about being in the hospital, is that there is only one room. Since Holly was sleeping, I couldn't turn on the TV, read, etc, so I basically sat in the dark.

Holly is a bit more sore today, but she is still able to get around and is looking good. Lucy is doing great!

Late last night, they gave Lucy a hearing test, which she passed and also gave her a Hepatitis A shot.

The Dr came in this morning and gave Holly a clean bill of health and set us up to discharge once the 48 hour wait was up (6 PM).

At 6:20, we left the hospital and came home! Lucy is nursed some, but has been pretty much sleeping since we arrived. I am sure that I will be in for a late one tonight, but at least I can put in a movie or watch TV!!

Holly is taking her first shower since the procedure and is very happy to be home. The kids have a 4 day weekend, so I am sure they will be giving their little sister lots of attention. :)
